North vs South Wrap Up
SLO FIRE BU18 Black and SLO STORM GU10 "Reds" win Gold at the Annual North vs South Tourney held in San Luis Obispo, while sister STORM teams GU13 Black and GU18 black make strong runs in their respective divisions. Meanwhile Boys U10 push on into the Gold Final!
Led by Departing Seniors Wyatt Maysey (Atascadero and San Diego State) and Nick Cordova (Los Osos & Cal State Monterey), the BU18 FIRE defeated Sunnyvale Arsenal, Mustang FC and Bullard FC to take the Men's Open Gold Championship.
SLO STORM GU10 "Reds" finished undefeated, besting Cal North's San Ramon Freedom 2-1 in the Final. It was the third championship for the "Reds" since April, while the team has compiled an impressive run of 10-2-2. The Reds tough and tenacious "D" was led by Alex Romero, Lindsay Haggard and Maria Cabrera, with Bria Boyd coming on strong in goal.
In other YDA girls play, Jenny Zakaria, Maggie O'Hare and Emma Nushi anchored the defense for the GU11 Red in their strong showing at 1-1-2 in GU11 play. GU10 Whites battled hard in the B Bracket, led by Jamie Fritzley, Nicole Liddicoat, Riley O'Connor, Anna Petersen, Sarah Plymale and Kiana Quintana.
GU13 Black STORM was looking to defend it's 2008 Gold title and went undefeated at 2-0-2 allowing just one goal in the tournament against Diablo FC in the Final. The two teams drew 1-1 and finished with 26 points each as Co-Champions of GU13. Diablo were awarded the Gold on a better goal differential.
GU18 Black STORM finished strong allowing just one goal in knockout competition and beating MVLA Nightmares 3-0 and Bakersfield Brigade 3-1 to take the Bronze Championship. Emily Babcock was the difference up top for the STORMers.
On the Boys side, SLO FIRE BU10 finished as runner up to Central Coast Eagles in a hard fought finals match 5-3. The FIRE "Boys" reached the finals after a thrilling OT win vs CC Condors of Five Cities.
