G13 SLO STORM start strong... undefeated in first round play of Cal South State Cup!

San Luis Obispo's STORM G13's represented SLOSC well the weekend of January 30 & 31 at the 2010 Cal South State Cup... in first round pool play.

The STORMers went 3-0-0 while shutting out all three opponents down in sunny Escondido, California... pushing their overall season mark to 24-5-7.

The "Thirteens" were all over Santa Clarita United in the first match... outshooting their counterparts 25-2.   United packed it in and stood tall until the 65:00 minute mark of the match... when Mic Mott took a ball up the middle and hit a low driven ball to the left corner which the keeper could not handle.

In match two on Sunday morning... the girls were up against FRAM CQ... a solid Southern Cal tournament team that they had seen before.   In a very physical contest, STORM mates Kelsey Shetler and Chenin Dotson both followed up keeper rebounds to help seal the deal... in the eventual 2-0 win.

Things came unglued for Cal Heat SC in the third match... as STORM throttled the underdogs 5-0... to wrap up first round play.   Sydney Knauer found the back of the net twice while Haley Fiscalini, Ashley Ellsworth and Victoria Gill rounded out the scoring.

According to Coach Bob Galarneau... "Everyone contributed to the great weekend of football"... "We will work on our finishing this week in training... looking to improve our timing of runs at balls in front of the goal"

Olivia Covello and Nora Zakaria bolstered the stingy defense... in front of keepers Mari Stewart and Joelle Lewis.

STORM G13's travel to San Bernardino as a top seed and will play OSC Alliance next in the single elimination format, at 1000am in the round of thirty two... February 20 & 21.

STORM... Hoorah, Hoorah!!

Coach Bob G
