2008 Club Operations

Below we have detailed the major changes coming up for the 2008 season. In addition, we are working on a detailed calendar for 2008, which should be available in early February. For More information on olders finishing this year (2007-08)...

OVERALL CHANGES:
Roster Size:
The maximum roster size for teams U10-U16 will be fifteen rostered players. For U17-U18 players the maximum roster size is 18 players (see chart). In addition, there can be up to 3 “reserve” players who are registered with CYSA, eligible to attend all trainings, and will pay a reduced fee. The reserve players are invited to participate in league games only if some rostered players are unavailable, and invited to tournaments if the coach is short rostered players or believes extra players beyond 15 will benefit the team. Reserve players can either be players who did not quite make the top fifteen roster spots, or those players who have too many outside commitments to regularly make practices and competitions.

In past seasons, we have attempted to be very accommodating with other sports or recreational activities. In 2008, we will look to register more committed players over less committed players when considering whom we choose. For older teams (U14-U18), during the school year, we are holding one training session during the week and one on the weekends. The schedule has been created this way to try and minimize the conflict between high school and middle school sports which traditionally practice and compete Monday through Friday.

Yearly calendar: The 2008 Calendar year runs from tryouts in April 2007 through the youngers State Cup tournament for your team in 2008. For 2008, the club will determine a yearly calendar and determine what weekends teams will be playing in tournaments, friendlies, etc.. That schedule will be available in early February. We will work very hard to eliminate all negotiation of schedules. The 2008 Calendar is 95% compete at this time.

Fees: The fees will be adjusted so that there are only three costs to players/parents;

  • annual initiation fee,
  • uniform fee and
  • monthly dues.

The projected costs, shown below, show a rise in monthly dues. However, when you compare the total cost of the season from last year with the total projected costs from this year, there is a small fee decrease. The camp from last year and 7 v 7, which were "optional" are now part of our training program. Our projected number of competitions (tournament, league and "friendly" games) increases from an average of about 25-35 in 2006, to 35 - 45 in 2007. Training gear and game socks will be included in the initiation fee. Warm-ups will be included in the uniform cost. If you just need parts of your uniform (new jersey, etc.), you may buy those individually. If you have a compete kit, you will have no uniform expense. Camps, 7v7, etc. are all included in monthly dues.

Below is a chart that provides some detail on team expenses.

Player Manual: Instead of a players conduct and commitments document, each parent and player will need to review and sign and expanded players manual (currently in draft form). This manual will define many of the ambiguities that have been troublesome for team operations.

CHRONOLOGICAL EVENTS/CHANGES IN PROGRAM
February to April Training: Olders (current U14’s to U18’s) will come together as their existing teams and begin training on March 3rd. The current U14 teams will start in February. The U14 teams seasons will end with the conclusion of State Cup. The BU15, GU16 and GU18 teams will play in a tournament, a friendly or two and then officially end the 2006-07 season when the Olders State Cup concludes. For More information on olders finishing this year.

The Youngers seasons will end somewhere between January and the Youngers state cup. The Youngers State Cup will officially end the season for all current U11-U13 teams.

Spring Academy: We will offer a public academy for players ages U8-U13 from late February through early April. Sessions will be held in both San Luis Obispo (Tuesday) and Los Osos (Thursday). Saturday sessions will be held at Cuesta College. The late February to tryout time frame is a down time for younger players. They may choose to attend the academy if they want, but there is no expectation that they attend.

Spring Break Camp: We will hold a spring camp open to the public

Tryouts: Tryouts for Olders and Youngers will be in late April. If there are enough interested, club level players, we will look to field two teams in an age group.

May & June Training - This will be an academy format where all teams will practice together (Youngers and Olders will have separate sessions) and we will focus on developing technical skills using a club-wide curriculum. After the May/June break, teams will practice on a more individual basis and focus on technical and tactical issues.

7 v 7: We are planning on holding the 2nd annual Friendship Games in conjunction with the Futbol Project again on May 19th & 20th. We will enter all of our club teams this year and the entry fees are included in the monthly dues.

Month Off: All teams in the club will take about a month off from June 11th to July 8th (June 9/10 is a tournament weekend). This downtime will provide a rest from soccer after the academy sessions and offer a time for families to plan vacations that won’t create soccer/vacation conflicts

SLOSC Developmental Training Week: Instead of a summer camp format like last year, we will hold a Developmental Training Week for olders and youngers after we return from the month off. Olders and youngers will be different weeks. The first three days are training sessions and the last two days will feature competitions. The cost of the Developmental Training is included with team dues and is a part of the regular training curriculum.

Public Summer Camp: We will not offer a public summer camp

North vs. South Tournament: Olders (next years U15’s to U18’s) will play August 4/5 and Youngers will play August 11/12.

League Season: This will run from September through mid-November. Older teams (U15-U18) will conclude play in mid-November. U11-U14’ s will continue into early December and take a holiday break after an early-mid December tournament.

Youngers (U11-U13) Tournament Season and State Cup: Youngers will begin training again right around the new year, attend a tournament or two and then conclude their season by participating in State Cup if appropriate, or attend another season concluding tournament. The youngers teams will formally start up again after tryouts in late April

Olders (U14-U18) Tournament Season and State Cup: Olders will begin training again after high school soccer has ended (about the beginning of March), attend a tournament or two and then conclude their season by participating in State Cup if appropriate, or attend another season concluding tournament. The olders teams will formally start up again after tryouts in late April.
